
Gujiya | Indian Dessert

Gujiya is a classic Indian festive dessert made with a crispy, flaky outer shell and a rich filling of roasted mawa (khoya), sugar, cardamom, and dry fruits. It is especially popular during Holi and Diwali and is best enjoyed once cooled and crisp.
Ingredients
- 2 cups Maida
- 4 tbsp ghee
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup Mawa (Khoya)
- 1 tsp ghee
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp Cardamom Powder
- 2 tbsp Almonds
- 2 tbsp Cashew Nuts
- 2 tbsp Pistachios
- 1 tbsp Raisins
- 2 tbsp Dessicated Coconut
Instructions

Add 2 cups all-purpose flour (maida) to a bowl. Add 4 tbsp ghee and mix well until the flour looks like breadcrumbs.

Add water little by little and make a tight dough. Cover and rest for 20 minutes.

Heat 1 tsp ghee in a pan. Add crumbled mawa and roast on low flame for 4–5 minutes until aromatic and slightly golden.

Turn off the heat and allow the roasted mawa to cool completely.

Add powdered sugar, cardamom powder, chopped almonds, cashews, pistachios, raisins, and coconut (optional). Mix well to form the stuffing.

Make small equal-sized dough balls and keep them ready for rolling.

Make small dough balls and roll each ball into a small circle like a poori.

Place 1 to 1.5 tbsp stuffing in the center of the rolled dough.

Fold into a half-moon shape. Seal the edges using a gujiya mould or pinch-and-fold pattern.

Heat oil or ghee on low-medium flame. Fry gujiyas in batches until golden and crisp.

Remove and place on tissue paper. Let them cool completely before storing.
