Ingredients

  • 200 gms Misri (Jaggery/Sugar)
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 3 tablespoons ghee/oil
  • 2 cups Brown Bread
  • 200 gms Black Chickpeas
  • 2 pinch salt

    Wash and soak chana dal in water for 4-5 hours. Drain the water.

    Add 1.25 tsp of turmeric powder and 1.25 tsp of salt to the drained chana dal.

    Close the pressure cooker lid and cook on high flame until 1 whistle comes.

    Lower the gas flame and cook for 8-10 whistles.

    Let the pressure come down completely before opening the lid.

    Mash the cooked chana dal with a ladle or potato masher until dry.

    Cut jaggery into small pieces and add to a pan. Add 1 tbsp of ghee and cook on medium flame till jaggery melts.

    Add the mashed chana dal to the melted jaggery mixture and mix well.

    Add 1 more tsp of ghee (optional) and 1/2 tsp of white care lige to the mixture. Mix well.

    Knead the dough with a little water until smooth. Keep it soft, not hard.

    Apply ghee on your hands before stuffing the dough.

    Make a bowl shape in the dough by pressing it with your finger.

    Stuff the dal mixture into the dough and press gently to close the lid.

    Steam the pithas for 15 minutes or boil them in water for 10-12 minutes.

    Let the pithas cool down slightly before removing them from the plate.
