Soak half a cup of chana dal in water for the whole night.
Throw away all the water and put it in a blender to grind the dal.
Add 1 teaspoon of cumin, 1 teaspoon of whole black pepper, and as per need add water. Close the lid and grind until fine.
Keep the dough neither too hard nor too soft.
Knead the dough well, make balls according to size, apply a little ghee or oil on palm and smooth it by pressing between both palms.
Coat 2 teaspoons of oil on all the balls so that they do not stick together.
Roll each ball into medium-tight flour to prepare puris.
Heat oil in a wok, put a little dough and see if bubble starts coming (oil is ready for frying).
Put the rolled out puri and fry it until puffed up on both sides.
